Design Studio M is a freelance web design studio run by Mattias Ahlvin. Located in beautiful Palmer, Alaska, the goal of Design Studio M is to provide quality and unique web design services on a local and global scale.

I have been involved in web design in various degrees for over ten years. Having learned the basics of HTML when the Internet was still fairly young, I have gone from learning to hand code HTML for basic pages to creating designs for dynamic content management systems running on MySQL and PHP.

You can see some of my work showcased in my portfolio. If you are interested in working with me on a new design, a site, business cards, feel free to contact me.

You are also welcome to become a member of this site. Being a member gives you exclusive opportunities to download free themes, participate in the community forums and so on.
New Theme: Baseline Released
by Design Studio M on Monday 06 October 2008 - 02:04:52

The e107 theme Baseline has been completed and is now available for download. Baseline is a new frontier of sorts in the sense that it is a pure CSS theme. The theme file size have been decreased as a result and load times are therefore quicker.

Theme Updates
by Design Studio M on Tuesday 30 September 2008 - 23:03:27

It has been several months since my most recent theme release. As you might imagine, I have been busy with a number of other things. However, a few of these things have been new theme releases. Some are old themes I never did finish, some are new and experimental. Here's a brief summary of what's coming:

Cerebral

Currently, this is the theme at this website. It was my first real attempt at making a pure CSS theme and I have been refining it and updating it to get it ready for a proper release.

Mountain Mist

Previously known as Summer Day, this theme never was released. I'm making a few modifications to the theme at the moment but this one should be released later on this week if all goes well.

Baseline

Baseline is another pure CSS theme. I'm currently in the process of putting the final touches on this one. Baseline will hopefully include custom forum icons and possibly a few other things.

Look out for these sometime in October.

Project Updates
by e107 on Thursday 08 May 2008 - 08:03:41

After a spring packed with projects, summer is coming and with summer, a whole new set of projects and ideas. Of course, I'm moving ahead at full steam, embracing ideas and opportunities as they arise. As a result, you can expect to see a few new things in the future.

First of all, I have not released a free e107 theme since Firestorm back in January. It's time for another one and I have just the one. Currently named Spring Solitude, it's a theme that I believe will project the relaxing atmosphere that we all would like to experience when summer comes along. With a bold mix of colors and a bit of a different design, Spring Solitude is intended to join the category of themes such as Serenity. A release date has not yet been set since development is still in early stages.

Second of all, Premium Themes are coming. What will the difference be between a Premium theme and a Free theme, you ask? Premium themes will include quite a bit more that I normally would not include with a free theme. This can include custom forum icons, forum pages, multiple custom pages and so on, depending on the design of the theme. In addition, I am considering offering these themes as plain HTML templates as well for those that are interested in creating their own sites without a CMS. Pricing has yet to be determined for Premium Products.

Furthermore, I'd like to announce that the first Premium Theme is being worked on as we speak. With a tentative name of Cerebral, it will be the first Premium Product offered by Design Studio M. Cerebral will be a modern and sophisticated theme that I believe will fit websites for many different kinds of clients, including artists, developers, clans and more. Keep your eyes open for further announcements regarding Premium Products in the future.

Design Studio M Redesign
by e107 on Tuesday 04 March 2008 - 07:39:56

The new design for Design Studio M has been completed!

What's new with this new design? The big news is that is a e107 theme made completely with DIVs without the use of tables. It has been tested on Firefox 2 and IE7 as well as IE6 so the majority of all of you that visit should have few problems with this new theme.

In addition, the content section has been opened up. This is an area where I will post articles and other content regarding web design and such. The first entry that goes into more detail about my DIV design experience has already been posted.

Feel free to let me know what you think of the new design.

Site Redesign in Progress
by e107 on Friday 22 February 2008 - 17:30:04

During the last couple of weeks, I have been working on a new design for this site. Those of you that visit fairly regularly might already have seen it. For now, I have pulled the design and gone back to the old one until I can work out a few nagging bugs in relation to older IE versions.

What's so special about the new design? First of all, it's a nicer, more polished look. Second of all, its an interesting experiment in creating a DIV only theme for e107 and DIV designs in general. I've found that more recent browsers, like Firefox 2 and IE 7 can handle this design just fine but browsers like IE tends to render things a little out of place.

So, while I go back to some troubleshooting over this next week, keep your eyes open, the new design will be back!

Theme Release: Firestorm
by e107 on Monday 07 January 2008 - 06:09:45

After a delay of several months, Firestorm has finally been finished! Firestorm follows in the footsteps of the popular Deep Blue II theme and delivers another fantastic, colorful theme that shows another aspect of the beautiful world we live in: the firestorm frequently witnessed in the sky for those of us that live here in Alaska.
